Team Norwood
We are very proud of all the people who make up Norwood Performance Horses. Each and every one is very important to us and contribute to the barn as a whole. Collectively we are Team Norwood.

The Norwood Family
Bill and Kelli were introduced in the summer of 2004 while Bill was working for Bob Avila and Kelli was working at a winery while having the summer off from her teaching job. Neither Kelli or Bill were in favor of setups but from first meeting on there was an inseparable bond. They were married in 2005 and were blessed by the arrival of their son, Austin (Aussie) in the summer of 2006. Gorgeous Ella Maree completed the family in early 2009. For all the Norwoods the horses are a lifestyle. Kelli, having grown up with horses and barrel raced in college, is beginning her career as a reiner and looking forward to competing further. She also is a High School Physical Education Teacher. Austin and Ella love their pony Gummybear and love to get out and be a part of the barn. Norwood Performance Horses is a true team effort.

I currently enjoy going out to the ranch with my husband; riding with my sister-in-law Kim Ruiz and her husband Eddie and our barbecues; watching my husband rope, trail riding and reining; seeing Commandalena’s babies in training; and the camaraderie with Bill’s other clients. I am concentrating on getting back into the show ring with my gelding Santa Ana Whiz and, later, riding a Commandalena baby. With my horse, my husband’s eternal support, and Bill’s expert advice, I am learning the bits of the puzzle as to how to ride a reiner, which I set out to do at least a lifetime ago. |

As a youngster I was captured by the western stories and in particular the books written by Louis L'Amour, Zane Grey and Elmer Kelton. Coming to America gave me the chance to explore this cowboy dream. For the last 15 years I have followed this dream and have enjoyed every second of it. Getting to understand the wonderful nature of horses has been and continues to be a fantastic experience. I enjoy competing and most of all enjoying the company and camaraderie of my fellow competitors and riders. I owe much to Bill Norwood so words here are inadequate except to say, horsemanship is first, riding and showmanship second and winning is the end product. Cottonwood Ranch is a warm welcome from the daily business activities, an Oasis. To all my cowboy and cowgirl friends and barn buddies ............enjoy your company and friendship!

I’m a non-pro Rookie rider, and my trusty equine partner in reining is SR Listo Poco Lena “Listo”. My plan for 2011 is to really step it up and be more competitive while still having a lot of FUN. The ultimate goal for us is to qualify and do well in the Jack & Linda Baker Reining Classic, which would be our biggest achievement to date. I enjoy reining because it challenges me to be a better rider, pushes me to overcome my fears (of going fast and stopping short) and provides me the opportunity to enjoy the awesome support and camaraderie of my wonderful family (husband of 21 years Eddie, brother and sister-in-law Wayne & Judy Clark), expert trainer and coach (Bill Norwood), and fellow friends and riders at Cottonwood Ranch (too many to name). Look for Listo and me in the show pen – we’ll be the ones going faster and sliding farther than we ever have before! |
